I think this is a beautiful and most obvious site for the new Husky statue. Some of the older alumni will recognize it as the location of the huge old (and leaning) white pine tree that President Ray Smith called “the Jim Spain” tree. Actually, I had little more to do with it than to write the letter from the bioscience department, pleading to save the great tree, when the new Electrical Engineering Building was being built. I think the tree gradually died from damage to its roots.
