Alumni and Friends Hold Wine Tasting in Traverse City

TC Winery

What better time to visit a vineyard, than during harvest?

That’s what 33 Tech alumni and friends did recently in Traverse City. They visited the newest winery on the Old Mission Peninsula which was opened by Tech alumnus Marty Lagina ’77 this past summer.

It is a beautiful building set into a hill with underground caverns that are used to store the barrels during aging. Starting in the tasting room, they got some history about how the winery was built and heard how the wood was reclaimed wood from trees on the property and some old barns.
Next, it was down a level to an area overlooking the production floor where we had a unique opportunity to talk with the winemaker, Sean O’Keefe.

The last stop was down in the caverns where we did a tasting of several wines amongst the barrels and The Oculus. What a unique look at a truly spectacular facility!

Many thanks to our Chapter Leader Linda Wittbrodt ’83 for planning the event!
