Mailbag: Shark Tank Success and Bragging Rights

Shark Tank

MTU Alumni Office,

Craig Beinecke is Michigan Tech grad and along with his business partner, appeared on Shark Tank last week. They were awarded $ 500,000 from one of the “sharks” towards their product. Thought other alumni might be interested.

Subject: PKT/MKM on Shark Tank

I am happy to share that on Monday I received confirmation that TekDry will air on Shark Tank on Friday, October 7.

My business partner and I will be on and we have been given the ok to start sharing the news. We’ve also recently signed an agreement to put our technology into 600 stores nationwide over the next couple months.

I’ve really appreciated the support that many of you have provided over the past couple years and it would mean a great deal to me if you would be willing to share this news in whatever way you can. Here are a few links to the news.

Finally, there are tentatively 10 Staples locations in the Detroit/Grand Rapids area that will soon have our machines. Thank you for your support!

-Thank you for the info, Bruce (and Craig). Pretty exciting (but not surprising). Just doing what Huskies do! -SB

Hmmm – how do I write this.
Tech is known mainly as an engineering school. Engineers exist on data. NMU is not an engineering school. Some claim that the University of Wisconsin is an engineering school but that’s highly debated in the UP. In any event, NMU and the UW system both had data (numbers) about their reduction in fall enrollment. But there are no numbers (no data) regarding the increase in enrollment in the September TechAlum Newsletter. As an engineer, my heart is broken!

This can be published only if it’s anonymous.

Grinning

- Hello, Grinning. While, Huskies do tend to be more about paw work, than jaw work, you’ll be all smiles when you hear we touted the enrollment data in our September 13 issue. Admissions Director Ali Carter also talked about it in our September 27 edition, and you’ll no doubt be happy to hear from John Lehman, associate director of enrollment, marketing, and communications, as he humbly barks in today’s issue about the big fall we’re having. Thanks for checking in (whoever you are)! -SB

Greetings!

I am a writer at the University of Arizona College of Engineering, where we are extremely proud to count Katerina Aifantis among our faculty. She received her BS in Engineering at MTU at just 19, and where her father, Elias Aifantis, is an MTU professor emeritus. UA associate professor Aifantis has received a major research grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to conduct research with her former professor at MTU, Stephen Hackney, in nanotechnology! You will find our article about her here. I invite you to share it with your alumni community. Please let me know if you have any questions, or need anything else. Thanks!

- From one editor to another, Jill, thank you for sharing. Always great to hear about former Huskies doing big things in other parts of the country -SB

The Kenyon Review literary magazine featured an excerpt from one of my newest books in progress. In the essay I mention Michigan Tech.
