Homecoming Memories and Alumni Career Promotion

MTU Homecoming Army Drill Team 1969

MTU Homecoming Parade 1969 MTU Homecoming Pep Band 1969I always liked the Homecoming Parade (not sure if they even still do that today) that would start in Hancock, go over the bridge and up Sheldon Ave (the wrong way) to the campus. Organizations such as the ROTC Drill Teams, the Greeks, the Pep Band as well as many independents would participate.

Attached are some photos taken during the October 1969 Homecoming Parade.

-In response to last issue’s Homecoming pie eating contest, alumnus Tom Duvendack ’72 replied. Thanks for letting us know the kind of pie they were eating. -SW

Tom also shared memories from the Blizzard of 1971-72. Thanks for sharing! -SW

Hitched to campus at 7:30 am (minus 38 if I remember it right).  Note on door of bio building said school CLOSED! First time since the 1930s.

Union was open so I stayed for coffee and donuts and study until afternoon. Then off walking to the “Library.” Pizza, Schlitz, Roast beef sandwiches and some Millers. Went tray coasting from top of hill all the way to Portage (no traffic) and later over to Big John’s for wine and I don’t remember what for eats, but I know it was good.

I always wanted it to get to minus 100 but only made it to minus 96 (windchill)

Memories of hunting, fishing, smelt fries in dorm, (phew). Everyone (nearly) had 2-10 guns in room. I only had seven. The recommendation was to store them in basement lockers. Only a recommendation.

Lots of other great memories.
