Tony’s Sports Bar

downtown houghton
Downtown Houghton, 1969.

Dennis,
Reading Jerry Wojack’s question (from the ‘Aerial Photos’ item in ‘From the Email Bag’) about Tony’s Sports Bar I thought that the attached photo, despite it NOT being an ‘Aerial Photo’, would be of interest to him as well as many others. Note that it was taken in May, 1969, from what was then the ‘railroad level’ of the lift bridge and it shows, in addition to Tony’s and several other businesses at that end of town, a portion of the Houghton ‘waterfront’ as it were.

Anyway, enjoy and I hope spring arrives soon at ‘da Tech’.

Thanks, John. Great shot. I recall Tony’s Red Wing Lounge, so called because Tony Buckovich played briefly with the Wings in the 1940s, I believe. The big building below the bar, now the Downtowner, and the old 7Up plant is a mystery to me.
