I just got around to opening the newsletter and was pleasantly surprised to see the link to the video from the Consolation Game in 1981. As a pep band member from 1977-1982 I remember that game like it was only 32 years ago . Reading the comments about the “UP Fan Spirit” during the third period reminds me of my favorite story from that weekend. The school bus the pep band was riding in had a “black box” failure on Highway 2 as we crossed Wisconsin. Now, being the pep band, we figured it would be a good time to get a picture with the entire band lined up behind the bus with our thumbs out. I wish I had a copy of that picture. The surprising part (and the point of this story) was that in the 5 minutes or so we were lining up for the picture we had enough people stop and offer us rides that the entire band could have hitch-hiked to Duluth. And just like the game, it didn’t matter if the car was full of Tech fans, Northern fans, or even Wisconsin fans.
