Alumna receives top honors at Black Engineer of the Year Awards STEM Conference

VeRonica Mitchell ’93, a senior engineer in vehicle definition and balance at General Motors, received a Modern Day Technology Award at the 2016 Black Engineer of the Year Awards’ STEM conference in Philadelphia last weekend.

Mitchell, who graduated from Michigan Tech with a BS in Chemical Engineering, was recognized for her work at GM and for the impact she has had on the automotive industry in creating new opportunities for women and minorities.

“I’m honored to receive this award recognizing great accomplishments in the STEM community,” Mitchell said. “I feel very blessed to work in a technology-rich industry where the boundaries of science are constantly being pushed.”

Mitchell has worked at GM since 1994. She lives in Auburn Hills, Michigan and supports her community by serving as an Auburn Hills City Council member and liaison to the planning commission.
