Mystery Marker, Breakers, Bosch Run

marker
County Road Marker.

You have probably already heard from at least one civil engineer, but this mechanical engineer will advise you that your mystery marker is concrete and not cement!

You’re the first, Ray. I’m sure there will be more!

Dennis,
We used to stop at the Bosch and pick up a quarter barrel on our way to “the beach”. No need for a cooler, there was usually some remaining snow to chill the brew.

At first I thought it may have been an old railroad mile marker, but the location is well away from any railroad grades, especially a grade for railroad that was over 500 miles long.

While looking at the location online I did notice that there seems to be an unusual numbering convention for the roads out that way. I don’t remember seeing those designations back in my cruising days, but the numbers are similar, especially if one of the 5′s is actually an S.

I do believe that is a section marker, I have seen them around the Copper Country for many years. I guess they stopped using the Yellow wood markers at some point in time as the wood markers disappeared after some time. I remember the Yellow markers around the area when I was growing up outside of Dollar Bay, I think the cement markers may last longer, what do you think?
