The first picture in one of myself on top of Ripley drive in Hancock . Camera angle was southeast. This is the 1949 Ford that I had after discharge from the Army in 1954. Come winter time, snow tires and stamp sand on the streets made it possible to navigate most of the hills in town and also to get to all the haunts of our time; the Duck, Gino’s pizza, the Dog house and Mikes bar out east from Houghton on 41.
While at Tech, I learned that my roommate’s Dad was a Ford dealer in Adrian, MI. I really was taken by the looks of the new Ford thunderbird and in the summer of 1956 I picked one up from his Dad’s dealership. It was my Tech car for class years 57 and 58.
In 1957 an engineering show in Dee stadium was organized which had numerous exhibits and a collection of cars. My T’Bird was chosen as one of the vehicles for the show.
These pictures were from that show and the one below was copied from our year book. The Tech man next to the car is not me.
As I remember it, there were other neat cars that Tech men had at that time. Maybe your article will stimulate more submissions to produce some captivating reading.
Hope these pictures will be helpful to you.

Thanks, Fred! It’s amazing to look at the streets here in town and see how much the vehicles have changed and how little some of the buildings have.
