Back in the day, the MTU Sports Car Club would put on a time, speed, distance rally in the spring, with much help from Jon Davis. The Rally would start and end at the Library Bar. Jon, always interested in introducing new people to the sport of rally, would teach a rally school before the event. I worked on the March 1973 rally. Students from Tech and Northern participated.

The Press on Regardless (POR) rally was always in the fall. I tried to volunteer as a course marshal every year, but the professors kept scheduling exams on rally night. When the POR stopped running stages in the UP, Jon Davis was instrumental in starting the Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) utilizing some of the old POR stage roads. The LSPR is still running every October. The 2014 LSPR will be October 17 & 18.
