Engaged-at-Carnival Club Grows

Hello Dennis,
I saw Dan and Kaylee’s story from the latest TechAlum Newsletter, and my fiancee and I are proud to be fellow members of the “Engaged at Carnival” club. I popped the question to my fiancee/soon-to-be wife while exploring the Champion Mill ruins in Freda during Carnival 2013, not more than a few hundred feet from where we had first spent time together on the stamp sand beach. The day was beautiful, but taking pictures was complicated with a camera in one jacket pocket and a ring box in the other. The Keweenaw did not disappoint, with the sun peeking through and a light snowfall to add to the Lake Superior panorama. It was the highlight of a spectacular long weekend, and we look forward to many more adventures together, in the UP and beyond!

Dennis,
Per alumni engagement during Winter Carnival : Winter Carnival of 1970 during a wonderful snow storm/blizzard at the “Rendezvous Restaurant.” Sue and I have been married for 42 years with many trips back to the U.P.

Jim Grigg ’68

Great to hear, Jim. The Rendevous was a good restaurant.

Dennis,
In response to the article about getting engaged during Winter Carnival, my wife, Angela (Hallo) ’12, and I got engaged at Mont Ripley Winter Carnival Friday in 2012. I specifically remember someone getting proposed to at the Hockey Game that night during intermission. Angela was so thankful that I chose a quiet, private corner of Husky Bowl to propose as opposed to Center Ice in front of a couple thousand Hockey fans.

Kurtis Schwaiger ’10

P.S. We were married July 6, 2013.

Kurt: Good move!
