Volunteer to Usher

Thanks for your interest in becoming part of our team of volunteer ushers! You can sign up as an individual or as a group. As an usher, you are an important and valued member of the Rozsa team, helping to create extraordinary and meaningful arts experiences for our community.

About Volunteer Ushering

What do volunteer ushers do? As a Volunteer Usher, you play a critical role in creating a joyful experience at arts events. Led by Rozsa staff, you and other Ushers work together to assist with wayfinding, connect guests to venue accommodations, enjoy the show with the Volunteer Usher team, and support effective crowdflow and emergency procedures. As an usher, your specific role will be one of:

Usher roles will be decided as a team at the beginning of the volunteer shift.

Do I do this alone or with other people? Each show will have a Front of House Lead and 2-12 volunteer ushers, depending on the size of the event, so you will never be alone! You are always welcome to put together a group—friends, family, or people from an organization—and enjoy the shared experience of bringing a production to life.

How do I prepare for the event?
No experience is needed. All the training you need will take place the day of the show, before guests arrive. Ensure you arrive at or before the shift start time, and check in with the Front of House Lead at the shift start time in the center of the Lobby for a brief orientation.

What do I wear and bring? Wear clothes and shoes that you’re comfortable in! Please make sure they are free from stains and tears. The Rozsa will provide a purple ushering bib-style apron to be worn over your clothes. You are welcome to bring a water bottle, and we encourage you to leave valuables at home.

What is the time commitment for a show? You will arrive 90 minutes before the show, monitor the audience while you enjoy the show for free, and then stay to help with some light clean-up for 30 minutes or less after the show.

As part of Michigan Technological University, all of the Rozsa's volunteers are expected to abide by the university volunteer policy.
