On April 13, 2018, the Michigan Technological University Board of Trustees elected Richard J. Koubek, executive vice president and provost of Louisiana State University, to be the University's 10th president. Koubek will succeed President Glenn D. Mroz on July 1, 2018.

Following President Mroz’s announcement on April 5, 2017, that he will be returning to faculty after his 13-year presidency, the Board of Trustees launched a search for Michigan Tech’s tenth president with high expectations.
