Sam Hoyt Named Tech's Fourth Academic All-American in 2012-13

Michigan Technological University senior women's basketball player Sam Hoyt was one of five players in NCAA Division II to earn Capital One Academic All-America First Team honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Arkansaw, Wis., native is now a two-time Academic All-American. She earned second team honors as a junior.

Hoyt currently ranks fifth in the GLIAC in scoring (16.8 points per game) and second in assists with 96. She leads the league and ranks fourth in the nation in free throw percentage (91 percent). She ranks eighth in scoring in school history with 1,331 points and holds the single game scoring school record with 37 points. Hoyt is on pace to set the school record for season and career free throw percentage.

During her career, Hoyt has earned Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention honors and was a two-time All-GLIAC selection. She has been named to the NCAA Elite Eight and GLIAC All-Tournament Teams. She has a 3.94 cumulative grade point average with a major in mathematics.

Hoyt joins football players Jacob Clark and Matt Curtin and women's soccer player Melanie Hoffman as Michigan Tech student-athletes who have earned Academic All-America honors this year.
