Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering—Engineering Mechanics
Expert in: Acoustics
Whether it’s the sound of a washing machine, a stadium crowd or the deepest spot in Lake Superior, Barnard has it recorded. As an acoustical engineer, he works to limit unwanted noise and study how it affects people and other receivers. To do so, he uses cutting edge microphones and other sensors to measure acoustical and vibrational phenomena. Barnard also works with new tech like making motionless loudspeakers from carbon nanotube films.
