Men's Nordic Ski Team Wins CCSA Team Title

The  men’s Nordic ski team from Michigan Technological University won the men’s overall team title at the Central Collegiate Ski Association on Feb.13-14. Tech finished five points ahead of second-place Northern Michigan University.

“I was really proud of how our men skied today,” said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. “The men have been skiing really well this season, and this is the payoff.”

Senior Oskar Lund led the team with a runner-up finish in 50:02 in the 20-kilometer freestyle.

Sophomore Jesse Smith finished eighth (51:26) and sophomore Petter Sjulstad was 11th (52:02) to round out the top three for the Huskies.

Sophomore Mackenzie Brennan turned in a strong race, finishing 22nd (54:28).

Senior Henna Riikonen-Purtsi was the top finisher on the women’s team with a seventh place finish. She covered the 15-kilometer freestyle course in 39:02.

Tech had two other top-20 finishes. Senior Jenna Klein was 16th (41:20) and sophomore Jackie Pribyl was 20th (42:06).

Sophomore Christina Mishica finished 23rd in 42:31.

The women finished third out nine teams.

The ski team will return to action when it hosts the NCAA Central Regional Championships Feb. 20-21.
