General Engineering

It's up to you. Engineer your career.

Tomorrow needs engineers who are dedicated and fearless. It needs problem solvers and visionaries. With so many majors to choose from, how do you know which engineering field is right for you?

General engineering allows you to take the intro courses you need while learning about the BS degree options available at Michigan Tech. All while staying on track to meet graduation requirements. You'll have up to three semesters to make a well-informed decision about your major.

From day one, you'll have a home in the Engineering Fundamentals Department within the College of Engineering where academic advisors and faculty are dedicated to helping students discover their passions and find the engineering major that's the right fit.

Engineering Explorations—special events for first-year Huskies—help you understand degree options and career opportunities in each discipline. Meet advisors and upper-level students. Get familiar with faculty and facilities.

Your cohort of 20 first-year students will attend the same sections of math, engineering, and physics. And within your engineering classes, you'll be on a team with three other students. Your team becomes a study group, research group, and a support network, so there is always someone ready to help!

"I've never been at a place where every single person around you wants you to succeed in the way that you want to succeed." Anna Browne, Electrical Engineering

You'll have plenty of opportunities to get involved with student-led Enterprise Teams and in faculty-led research projects.
