About First Friday University Socials

First Friday University Socials, started in 2006, provide Michigan Tech faculty, staff, graduate students, and retirees with a casual setting for informal discussion and socializing. Each month during the academic year, the university’s Auxiliary Services department partners with a different school or department to host the gatherings. Such informal events often lead to more productive work relationships and an increased appreciation for diversity.

First Friday University Socials take place on the first Friday of each month, September through June, from 4–6 p.m. There is no social in January due to the semester break.

Faculty, staff, graduate students, and retirees from across campus are invited and encouraged to attend the First Friday University Socials. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet new people, learn about other departments, share your own work and interests with colleagues.  Sponsoring schools and departments are encouraged to be creative in planning their event. Past socials have included activities such as displays, presentations, facilities tours, trivia contests, and prize drawings. Watch Tech Today for First Friday University Social updates and details.
