The year 2013 marks the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and Gettysburg Address, both seminal moments during the mid-point of the Civil War. The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra honors these historic events with music inspired by Lincoln, Gettysburg, the Proclamation, and the Civil War, including the first major symphony written by an African-American composer. President Glenn Mroz joins the KSO as narrator of Copland’s Lincoln Portrait to conclude this commemorative concert.
