Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra Fall Recital Series

The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra initiates its Fall Recital Series on Friday, September 30, at 7:00 pm at Portage Lake United Church.  With a Shakespearean theme ("Star-Crossed Lovers"), the performance includes sappy, tragic, and humorous vocal and instrumental selections.  

There is no ticket price for the recital, but a $5 donation is accepted at the door.  There will be a reception after the recital.

Turn on the Heat

Houghton Turn On the Heat is a benefit concert to raise additional money for heat assistance for Copper Country residents in need.

The visual and performing arts department is sponsoring this benefit concert for the Turn on the Heat campaign of Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly and St. Vincent DePaul.

Music and entertainment will be provided by Boodie Creek, Tom Katalin and Krissa Somero, and Captain Woody Boogie and the Pirates of Groove. All proceeds will go towards Little Brothers to provide firewood to elderly people to keep warm this winter. . . .

Singers and instrumentalists from Michigan Tech will be joined by regional high school musicians for the first Michigan Tech Band and Choir Honors Festival. World-renowned composer, Eric Whitacre, will conduct performances of his music by the Michigan Tech Concert Choir, Superior Winds, and the festival band and chorus. Sponsored in part by the Mark Eugene Howard Endowment.

The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra concludes its Fall Recital Series on Thursday, November 17, at 7:30 pm at Portage Lake United Church.  With a Shakespearean theme ("As You Like It"), the performance includes a wonderful variety of ensemble types, including brass quintet, string quartet, contrabassoon solo, oboe duet, and vocal solos.  Don't miss our last recital of the year!

There is no ticket price for the recital, but a $5 donation is accepted at the door.  There will be a nice reception after the recital.

The Superior Wind Symphony is Michigan Tech’s premier Wind Ensemble featuring woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. The concerts offer symphonic thrills, innovative programming, fruitful collaborations, and exciting premieres. The Spring Revels concert will feature the music of John Williams from the original Star Wars Trilogy. The American Film Institute selected this score to the original Star Wars movie as the greatest American movie score of all time.
