Candles, Roses, Tears Express Tech Compassion
Michigan Tech’s Undergraduate Student Government Association organized
a candlelight vigil Wednesday evening, April 18, to honor the victims
of the Virginia Tech massacre and to express their compassion and support
for everyone at the Blacksburg, Virginia campus.
Thirty-three roses—one for each life lost in the shootings—reminded
the crowd of more than 250 students, faculty, and staff of the
fragility and beauty of human life. The Praise and Effect Choir sang,
and several students spoke.
On Friday, April 20, students and staff at Michigan Tech were encouraged
to wear the Virginia Tech colors of maroon and orange instead of their
usual black and gold Huskies clothing.
