Use of University Identity Marks

The University Policy Office, Office of Innovation and Industry Engagement and University Marketing and Communications announce the issuance of new University Administrative Policy 8.01:Use of University Identity Marks.

This policy provides guidelines regarding the use of Michigan Tech's identity marks. The policy states the use of any identity marks of the University which are approved must meet the standards outlined in the brand, marketing, editorial and other associated guides published and maintained by UMC.

Join a Music Ensemble

Play the Cello? Love to Sing? Join a Music Ensemble at Michigan Tech.

The music ensembles at Michigan Tech will hold their annual ensemble auditions from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7 in preparation for the 2017-18 performance season.  The ensembles include opportunities for students and community members to perform band, choral, jazz and orchestral literature in concerts from September  to April 2018.  Audition schedule:

  • Choral Auditions. Auditions will be held Aug. 30, 31, Sept. 1 and 5. Rehearsals begin Sept. 6. Prepare a vocal solo that highlights your voice. To sign up for a 20-minute audition appointment go to the following link.
  • Superior Wind Symphony Auditions. Auditions will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3 in Rozsa 208 (band room). For more information contact Michael Christianson (VPA).
  • Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra Auditions. Auditions will be held by appointment Aug. 30 to Sept. 5 in Rozsa 205. For more information, contact Joel Neves (VPA).
  • Michigan Tech Jazz Auditions. Jazz auditions will be held by appointment during the first week of classes (Sept. 4-7). Audition sign up sheets and instructions will be located outside of the Visual and Performing Arts Dept. office (Walker 209) beginning Aug. 28. Jazz rehearsals begin Sept. 11. for more information, contact Mike Irish.


Tech Football to Host Scrimmage Wednesday Night

The Michigan Tech football team will host a scrimmage Wednesday night at Sherman Field as part of the countdown to the 2017 season opener. The scrimmage starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

A new era for Michigan Tech football begins when the season kicks off Aug. 31 at home against Truman State starting at 7 p.m. New Head Coach Steve Olson takes the reigns of the program after serving as an assistant coach under Tom Kearly for six seasons, including the past three as defensive coordinator.

VIP 4 Packs and single game tickets are on sale now for the 2017 season. VIP 4 Packs cost $400, and up to $200 may be tax deductible. The VIP ticket program is in its 14th year and this year fans get six games compared to five last season.

Each football VIP 4 pack comes with four tickets to every Huskies' home game and access to the VIP Tailgate Party prior to each game with free food and beverage provided by the Bonfire Grill. Free preferred parking in lot 24, free game program (first 300) and game program recognition are also included.

Tech Soccer Program Ranked 10th in Nation

College Factual recently released their 2017 National Student-Athlete Rankings for NCAA D-II women's soccer. Michigan Tech is ranked 10th out of 228 total schools for their D-II women's soccer program.

This means Michigan Tech is top 10 in the nation for offering a quality education and a quality soccer program. Michigan Tech has maintained this ranking two years in a row. For more information, visit the College Factual website.

WNMU-FM aired a story about Michigan Tech using drones to map Hiawatha National Forest land on the Stonington and Garden Peninsulas. The FAA-approved flights began last week and will take place over a four-week period. They will gather information to assess the health and condition of the Forest's Great Lakes coastal wetlands. See the full story here.
