Keweenaw Alumni & Friends Skybox Social

The Keweenaw Alumni Chapter invites you to join alumni and friends for a social and skybox seating at MacInnes Arena for game two of WCHA semifinals on Saturday (March 11).

Cost is $36 per person which includes refreshments and skybox seating for the game.

The social will start at 6:30pm with the puck drop at 7:07pm. You can register online or call the alumni house at 7-2400.

Hockey

The Huskies swept Lake Superior State in the WCHA Quarterfinal series at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies outscored the Lakers 14-4 on the weekend with a 6-4 win Friday and an 8-0 shutout Saturday. Five different Huskies scored Friday with Jake Jackson twice. Seven players scored Saturday with Joel L'Esperance potting a pair. Angus Redmond had his fourth shutout of the season Saturday with 16 saves. Tech won its 20th game, its fourth over LSSU this season, and the seventh straight over the Lakers overall Saturday. The Huskies now advance to the WCHA Semifinals, hosting Minnesota State this weekend. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and if necessary, Sunday. Current season ticket holders have until noon today to secure their seats for the next round. Bemidji State hosts Bowling Green in the other WCHA Semifinal.

Victor Vukorpa, a Senior Master Black Belt in Six Sigma at Whirlpool Corporation and Senior Lead of Whirlpool’s Global Operational Excellence (OPEX) program, will share his experiences with Tech via Google Hangouts at 4 p.m. Monday (March 13) in Dow 642.

Scholarships Available

Sons and Daughters Scholarships
A reminder that Michigan Tech Employee Sons and Daughters Scholarship applications, valued at $100 each, are available for the 2017-18 academic year. Applicants must be children of Michigan Tech employees. Applications must be submitted by Friday, March 10, and are available online.

Leann Becia Family/AFSCME Scholarships
Two $250 Leann Becia Family/AFSCME Scholarships are available for 2017-18. Applicants must be the son, daughter or spouse of a current AFSCME Local 1166 member. Applications, which must be submitted by Friday March 10, and are available online.

Both scholarships require that applicants be full-time Michigan Tech undergraduates in their first four years of study or high school students planning to enroll for Fall 2017.

New Funding

Yvette Dickinson (ESC) is the principal investigator on a project that has received a $15,000 research and development contract from the US Department of Agriculture - Forest Products Laboratory. The project is "Effect of Silviculture Practices on the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Lake States Hardwood." 

This is a one-year project.
