A Cup of Joe with the Safety Crew

Michigan Tech’s Safety Team — Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and the Office of Risk, Insurance, Safety, Security, and Compliance (RISSC) — will be hosting our next monthly Safety Round Table: a place for all Huskies to share a cup of coffee and learn about the importance of campus health and safety.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday, May 7, from 9-10 a.m. in the MUB Alumni Lounge.

Topic: The EHS team will discuss the new upcoming regulations on using products containing methylene chloride (also known as dichloromethane and abbreviated as DCM).

In addition to numerous laboratory uses, methylene chloride was historically used in a variety of cleaners, degreasers, adhesives and other solvent-based products. At this presentation, we will outline what products need to be methylene chloride-free, the regulations for continued laboratory use, and the implementation deadlines for the new rules. There will also be an informal opportunity to talk with our campus safety professionals about other safety related questions and issues.

If you have a topic you want discussed, please email ehs-help@mtu.edu. We would be happy to present on a safety topic you are interested in!

So mark your calendars! Come ask the questions you have always wanted to ask and get the answers you need about Michigan Tech safety programs, legal compliance issues and additional resources…and have a cup of Joe with the Safety Crew!

Community Cybersecurity Training Coming to Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech's Department of Public Safety and Police Services, in partnership with the National Cybersecurity Preparedness Consortium (NCPC), is bringing two cybersecurity trainings to campus this month.

The training sessions are open to all faculty and staff members, and there is no prerequisite to register. It is perfect for those who want to learn how they can assist with a campus cyber event, regardless of their background with computers.

  • MGT-478 Community Cybersecurity Information Sharing Integration — May 13-14
This course introduces foundational cybersecurity information sharing concepts that can be leveraged to build a community cybersecurity information sharing collaborative.

  • MGT-301 Community Cybersecurity Preparedness Simulation — May 15
This course is designed as a facilitated game simulating a community-wide cyber security event. Using a gamification approach, participants will strategize with a diverse group of stakeholders to plan for and respond to a cybersecurity incident that could have cascading effects across a community.

All trainings will take place in the Memorial Union Building from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. To register for the trainings or learn more about them, please visit the Cybersecurity Course Registration form.
