Transportation Services System Outage

Transportation Services announces their on-line transportation portal that allows customers to purchase permits, pay/appeal violations and update their vehicle information, will be down from 8 p.m tomorrow, (March 9), until 8 p.m. Thursday (March 10) for required maintenance.

Customers can contact the Transportation Services office during normal business hours at 7-1441, Administration Building room 100 or by emailing parking@mtu.edu.

Club Indigo Presents "My Left Foot"

This month's Club Indigo food and film event at the Calumet Theatre features the Irish classic "My Left Foot."

Based on the life of Dublin's writer/artist Christie Brown it brought Daniel Day-Lewis to prominence as he won an Oscar for his portrayal.

The movie will be shown at 7:15 p.m. Friday, preceded by an Irish buffet by Chef Cormack of the Irish Times at 6 p.m. The buffet features Irish Pub Salad, Corned Beef, Cabbage and Carrots, Champ Potatoes, Luck of the Irish Brownies and Irish Bread Pudding.

The cost for dinner and the movie is $21. Dinner only, $16.50, Movie only, $6. There is a discount for children under ten.

No C-Cubed Luncheons This Week

There will not be any C-Cubed luncheons this week during Spring Break. C-Cubed will begin again March 17.

Watch for the menu next week in Tech Today. C-Cubed lunches are offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays during the Fall and Spring Semesters in the Memorial Union Alumni Lounge.

Lunch is $10 (cash, credit cards and C-Cubed Gift Certificates accepted). You may bring your own lunch instead of purchasing the buffet. Coffee, tea, fruit-infused water, cookies and fruit are available for all. All faculty and staff, along with their guests, are invited.

Blake, Moxley named All-GLIAC

Two Michigan Tech women's basketball players were named All-GLIAC First Team. 

Danielle Blake (Midland, Mich.) and Kylie Moxley (Brillion, Wis.) were two of the 10 members on the first team. Blake also earned GLIAC All-Defensive Team honors.

Blake earned the honor for the third consecutive year after leading the Huskies in scoring, rebounds, blocks and steals.

She was twice named GLIAC Player of the Week and had six 20-point games. The 6-0 senior forward owns the school record for career blocked shots and ranks third all-time in rebounds and 11th in points.

Phillips Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

Michigan Tech senior goaltender Jamie Phillips has been named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week after his work to help the Huskies sweep Northern Michigan last weekend.

The senior netminder notched his 10th career shutout Friday night and turned in a 27-save performance in the series finale Saturday to help Michigan Tech claim its first MacNaughton Cup as WCHA regular season champions since 1976. The weekly honor is the fifth for Phillips this winter.

Guest Speaker Luncheon—Rise of the Network Scholar
Traditionally, scholarship has been disseminated through journals, which carry an editorial process that takes as long as a year from submission to publication.

Senenge T. Andzenge, the instructional technology fellow of digital education and innovation in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Minnesota, will share his expertise in this area and lead a discussion on how learning is changing across the academy from noon to 1 p.m. March 15.

NOTE: This event is partially sponsored/funded by the Visiting Women & Minority Lecturer/Scholar Series (VWMLS), which is funded by a grant to Institutional Equity & Inclusion from the State of Michigan's King-Chavez-Parks Initiative, and also by the William G. Nominations Open for the Clair M. Donovan Award

The Blue Key Honor Society recognizes a Michigan Tech faculty or staff member, student or an exceptional community member who has contributed the most outstanding service during the preceding year with the Clair M. Donovan Award. This award is in honor of Clair Donovan, who made immeasurable contributions to Michigan Tech through his service as national president of Blue Key, as an alumnus and as a civil leader.

Consider nominating a faculty or staff member, student or an exceptional community member who has positively contributed to the public image of the University and demonstrates a continuing interest in the development of the University. The nomination form can be found online.

CTL Guest Speaker Workshop—Making Social Media Productive in Learning 

Senenge Andzenge, the Instructional Technology Fellow of Digital Education and Innovation in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota, will explore two unique low-cost tools that allow classes to productively participate in online (and ongoing) video discussions from mobile devices. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 15.

These tools could be used for small group, project-based, or full class discussions, and allow students to see facial expressions, hear vocal inflection and share experiences as they discuss.

An inferred reference to Michigan Tech was made over the weekend by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In a speech touting innovation and progress in various parts of Michigan, Clinton said "The next generation of Engineers is being trained in Houghton." Watch the clip.
