Program Educational Objectives
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) describe the attributes that we aspire for our graduates to possess three to five years after graduation. The BS degree program in Surveying Engineering (SE) prepares graduates with the technical and managerial skills necessary to enter careers in land surveying, photogrammetry, and mapping; who are well prepared to work both in the field and in the office.
- Graduates will be able to analyze and solve surveying engineering problems by applying basic principles of mathematics, science, and engineering.
- Graduates will be able to use modern surveying engineering techniques, skills, and tools to identify, formulate, and solve surveying engineering problems.
- Graduates will be able to apply the knowledge and skills from a broad education in order to understand the impact of surveying engineering solutions in a global, societal, and environmental context consistent with the principles of sustainable development.
- Graduates will be prepared for professional practice in surveying engineering.
- Graduates will demonstrate an understanding of ethical, societal, and professional responsibilities; will recognize the limits of their knowledge and initiate self-directed learning opportunities; and will be able to function and communicate effectively individually and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide the education needed for the graduates to become qualified as licensed professional surveyors.
The SE Student Outcomes (SOs) capture the desired attributes that the SE program in the School of Technology aspires to impart to its students through the curriculum and academic experience.
- An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, geospatial science, and engineering
- An ability to design and conduct experiments (i.e. field measurements), as well as to analyze and interpret remotely sensed geospatial data
- An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired and applicable Surveying Engineering related needs
- An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
- An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
- An ability to communicate effectively
- The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
