Flurries Moving from Possible to Probable Soon!

The weather in Houghton has always been more than just a conversation topic.  Back when we were on quarters, classes began near the end of September. One of my former roommates who was a few years older than I related this story often.

At Freshman orientation which was held the week before classes began, it was asked when the first snow was expected.  The answer was, “last Thursday.”

On Memorial day weekend Marquette Harbor was still solid with ice and we waded into the Portage to step up on ice near shore. Two weeks later when classes were over for spring term, the ice in Marquette Harbor was floating. The Portage never really got comfortable that year, but we swam in it anyway.

Here’s to a comfortably pleasant August and a winter without storms during travel times.
