1960 Olympic Hockey Team

Finally some of the press, including Reuters, has remembered the college team that won Hockey Gold in 1960. The lack of recognition has bothered me since we won at Lake Placid in 1980 and with virtually no mention of the earlier Squaw Valley, CA. win. In retrospect even more amazing since the extent of college hockey was so limited in programs at the time.

Herb Brooks who coached the Miracle team of 1980 was the last player to be cut from the 1960 team, but he went on to lead the Minnesota Gophers to what has remained a top rated program over the past 60 years.

Wikipedia and some of the major press has picked up on “The Forgotten Miracle” in the past 2 days. There’s even a B&W you tube video for fans.

Brooks had most likely played against the Huskies on Dee’s ’53 artificial ice.

Bob: That team included Hancock legend Rod Paavola, whose gold medal was on display at the old Colonial Steakhouse on the Hancock canal.
