Comfort Food

Since you asked about comfort food, it was pizza and hot tea down at the Library Bar until the late hours. Then you would go outside at -40f and hear the crunching of the snow under your feet, echo off the buildings. So warm and so comfortable.

Ah, and to think we aren’t really all that far away from that crunchy echo again. –Kevin

I had a habit of chowing down at the Dee during Tech or local hockey games on a Hot Dog, Sour Cream n Onion Chips and a Diet Squirt. Natural Casing Dogs I believe; or at least that the makes the memory even better! Love those Vollwerth’s.  Used to be that when I visited The Yoop I’d take a few pounds of frozen Vollwerth’s with me on the plane. The security guys at CMX were hip – this was common practice apparently!

Was stationed Germany for many years. They had good sausage for sure but try to find Sour Cream n Onion Chips much less Diet Squirt!

I live in DC area now. we’ve got dog stands galore but none successfully match the Dogs from The Yoop. I listen to WMPL on the web radio and get kick when some firm advertises a sale and offer free or cheap dogs as an incentive to come by. That’s UP flavor, you betcha!

I love the things some of us jam into our suitcases. I know someone who would fill two of them with Tillamook cheese every time he went out there—I used to live out that way, too. I can’t imagine what that looks like to the TSA people. –Kevin

Kevin,

Regarding “Comfort Food” I would have to say that the typical pickled eggs, pasties & fish bowls are going to get plenty of votes, and I can’t fault anyone for voting as such. But, let me be the first to be a promoter of Trenary Toast!

There are only two things I know about the town of Trenary: Toast and the Outhouse Classic –Kevin

In my freshman year in DHH, there was a small snack bar in the basement where you could get the best milkshakes in town. A perfect late night nightcap.
Couple of years later, married & living in Daniels Heights (old section – 1807 F), treats became pickled eggs at Mike’s 19th Hole out on 41, and 15 cent Bosch drafts at the dog house.

I keep making the mistake when I go to The Hut up in Kearsarge of not leaving enough room for a shake after my meal. Someday I’ll learn… –Kevin
