Mel Pearson Named Head Coach at the University of Michigan

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Mel Pearson has been named the head hockey coach at the University of Michigan the school announced on Monday (April 24). Pearson just wrapped up his sixth season at Michigan Tech and was 118-92-29 overall in his return to his alma mater.

Walk, Weld, and Win: 2017 Design Expo

From die casting vents to human gait analysis to transcatheter stents, the winning teams at this year’s Design Expo show how cutting edge tech is brought into daily life.

For the second year in a row, the Isle Royale wolf population remains a mere two. Researchers from Michigan Tech say that as the wolf population stays stagnant, the moose population will continue to grow at a rapid pace. And this could have a significant impact on the island’s famed forests.

Students Honored by National Science Foundation

Three students from Michigan Tech have received fellowships from the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP), one of the oldest and most competitive programs in the nation. In addition, three students received Honorable Mention, in the prestigious program.

Tim Eisele First Recipient of Chemical Engineering Endowed Faculty Fellowship

Eisele holds a BS, MS and PhD in Metallurgical Engineering, all from Michigan Tech. In his research, he develops bacterial processes for upgrading and extracting iron ores and low-cost reprocessing of industrial wastes such as slags and sludges to recover valuable metals.

Look, Ma, No Driver: The AutoDrive Challenge

Students competing in the challenge have been tasked with designing, building and testing a fully autonomous vehicle. They will start with a Chevy Bolt and outfit it with sensors, control systems and computer processors to successfully navigate an urban driving course in automated driving mode.

Physics Grad Student Headed to Los Alamos National Lab

Chad Brisbois is one of 53 graduate students in the US to earn a place in the Department of Energy’s Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program.

Michigan Tech Tops the State in Return on Investment
