1. When should I apply?
The
sooner, the better. Part-time, non-degree seeking, or guest
students can apply any time as long as spaces are available in classes. Full-time,
degree seeking students should have all their credentials in 30 days
prior to the semester they wish to take classes. For Summer Session,
the deadline is April 4, 2007. Students can apply online for free-
http://www.mtu.edu/apply/ (apply
for part-time non-degree). Guest students that are unable to apply online-they
must fill out the Guest Application and submit a $40 application fee
with it.
2. I’m a former MTU student. How should I reapply?

3. I’m a student at another university. Can
I take summer classes at Michigan Tech?Yes. A student
who is regularly enrolled in good standing at another institution may
be admitted to MTU for one semester as a guest student. Obtain a Michigan
Uniform Undergraduate Guest Application form at: https://www.admin.mtu.edu/em/students/records/guest.php or
from any other college or university in Michigan. If you wish
to register for two or more consecutive semesters, then you must apply
for admission as a transfer student.
4. Can high school students take Summer Session classes?
Yes. High
School students can be part-time students not seeking a degree at Tech
while they are still in high school. High school
students can take classes at MTU if they obtain written permission from
their high school principal and provide a high school transcript. Please

5. What about high school and college transcripts?
Part-time,
non-degree seeking students are not required to submit high school and
college transcripts. However, if you
want to be a full-time, degree seeking student, you must submit all
requested credentials.
6. If I change my mind or my plans change, can I get my money
back?
The
application fee is nonrefundable, but tuition and fees are 100% refundable
if you withdraw before the first day of class. After
that, refunds are prorated.
7. The course I want to take requires a prerequisite; do I have
to have it?
Yes. You may not elect a course without the proper prerequisites. If
you have questions about prerequisites, contact the department where
the course is taught before you register. In some cases, an equivalent
prerequisite may be accepted or you may register with instructor permission.
8. Where can I get more information about academic
regulations and all the classes offered at MTU? You can
get this information from the Student Records and Registration webpage
at: http://www.admin.mtu.edu/em/ NOTE: While
every effort is make to ensure that the course offerings listed are accurate,
unforeseen circumstances or low enrollments may cause changes or cancellations. Michigan
Tech also reserves the right to change the days, times, room, or instructors
as deemed necessary.
9. Can I still register after classes begin?
Yes, assuming openings
exist. However, if you
are registering for the first time after May 9, 2007, a late fee of
$100 will be assessed.
10. Who do I contact for information about housing?
On-campus
room and board is available to students staying at MTU for the summer. If
you plan to attend any classes at MTU and wish to stay on campus, please
contact Lisa Moyle lgmoyle@mtu.edu, (906) 487-2682) as soon as possible
for any information on rates.
11. How do I find out about financial aid?
Please contact
the Financial Aid office directly for any questions on scholarships,
loans, applications, or any other form of financial aid. (906) 487-2622. Special
applications for summer financial aid are available through this office.
12. How do I receive graduate school information?
Visit
our website: www.gradschool.mtu.edu. If you are interested
in applying to the Graduate School at MTU, obtain an application packet
from the department of interest. Basic application forms are available
in the Graduate School, but other materials and forms specific to individual
departments are available only from those departments. (906) 487-2327. Students
who want graduate credit but don’t want to apply for a degree program
can apply for non-degree graduate status.
13. Can I take classes without having to formally apply?
This
program allows the general public to take a regular college course without
having to formally apply to the University. Individuals are allowed in
courses, specified by individual departments, as long as there are spaces
available after regular students have enrolled. Participants
in the program do not receive credit for the class. However, they
can receive a certificate of completion for the course. For more

citizens can take classes for free.
14. What can my children do while I’m taking
classes?
