Registration Policy

 Student Organization Registration Policy

  1. Student groups must be a registered student organization with Student Activities in order to receive privileges granted by the University.  Benefits of becoming a Student Org here.
  2. Registration shall be valid from the date of registration for one year, or until the registration deadline of the following fall semester, whichever is sooner.  Student organizations must register each year.
  3. Organizations must have 10 active members who are enrolled students of Michigan Technological University.
  4. Registered student organizations must have at least one advisor who is a full-time employee of the University (faculty or staff).  Organizations may appoint additional advisors who are part-time or temporary employees, or who are members of the community.
  5. To be considered a registered student organization, the following documents must be on file with Student Activities:
  1. Documentation must include:
    • The name of the organization
    • A description of the purpose(s) of the organization
    • The names and titles of the officers identified on Involvement Link
    • Ten members on Involvement Link
    • The names and email addresses of all the organization’s members for the purpose of record keeping and disseminating information to the student body.
    • A statement that a change in the organization’s advisor must be approved by Student Activities
    • A statement that a change in the organization’s constitution or by-laws must be approved by Student Activities
    • A statement that the organization is in compliance with Michigan Tech’s most recent Board of Control Equal Opportunity Policy
  1. Voting members or officers of an organization are limited to enrolled Michigan Tech students
  2. Officers of an organization must have a minimum 2.25 grade point average, both cumulative and most recent semester
  3. The student group is not officially registered until Student Activities receives all of the above required information and approves
  4. Changes in membership within the organization must be updated immediately.
  5. An inventory list of all the organizations supplies and equipment must be uploaded to Involvement Link, and organizations must be in compliance with the tagging procedures
  6. For informational and publicity purposes, registered student organizations may submit their meeting and event times to:
  • Involvement Link:  Log onto your Involvement Link page and click on events.  Student Activities must approve the event.  If approval is urgently needed, please call the Coordinator for Registered Student Organizations at 906-487-2402 during business hours.
  • Student News Briefs:  Send an email advertising your event to kmaynard@mtu.edu by 5:00 PM Thursday during the regular school year, and noon Thursday during the summer.
