- Characterized by its glacially carved lakes and water ways covered in boreal forest. Very popular camping, canoeing and fishing destination.
- Isle Royale

- It is a beautiful place for Canoeing, Kayaking and Backpacking. This National Park provides a wonderful get away for the experienced paddler. It is encouraged to paddle the many inland lakes rather than the shore of Lake Superior.
- Apostle Islands

- Mostly for Kayaking, this location has become very popular for sea kayakers. It is suggested to have a closed-cockpit water craft. Navigating these waters can be very fun and exciting as long as the weather and conditions are respected. One must display good judgment when on these waters.
- Keweenaw Water Trail

- This water trail goes all the way around the Keweenaw. It is known for its varying conditions, access to small lakeshore towns and even some fishing. Although possible in a canoe, it is highly suggested to use a closed-cockpit water craft, making a kayak the preferred method of travel.

- Sturgeon River Sloughs

- These wetlands are made possible by the Portage and Sturgeon rivers. There is an observation tower off of Highway 41. These lands are also managed by wildlife biologists that monitor the water flow for the wetland wildlife that resides there.

- Actually named Santa Monica Beach, but known locally as Agate Beach due to the possibility of finding agates. Typically uncrowded rocky beach, great for an overnight trip.
- Horseshoe Harbor

- Just north of Copper Harbor, this is a favorite location of many people. There is a spectacular view of rock outcroppings and is a great example of the wonderful superior shoreline.
- Misery Bay

- Isolated, but close to a DNR boat launch. Beautiful way to spend the afternoon and play in the Lake Superior and Misery river waters.
- Little Traverse Bay

- Just South of Grand Traverse Bay, and East of Lake Linden on Lake Superior. Not particularly well known.
- Grand Traverse Bay

- East of Lake Linden, not well known. Easy Access, right off of Big Traverse Rd.
- Great Sand Pt.

- This Beach is unique in that it is protected from the tempests Lake Superior waves due to many off shore islands. These waters are also fairly shallow making it a great place to go swimming during the summer months. With Pictured Rocks close by this location is a real U.P. gem.
- Seven Mile Pt.

- Northwest of Ahmeek, off of Five Mile Pt. Rd. There is no camping, fire or glass containers allowed. Yet another beautiful bay brought to you by Lake Superior and the Keweenaw Peninsula.
- Freda Stamp Sands
- Follow Canal road northwest, take Laminga West all the way to Superior.
- Not too far from Houghton. Not the greatest beach, the key attraction to this location is the ruins of the old stamp mill. There is a lot of history at this place.
- Breakers

- A very popular spot for students. You know that breakers is going to be a fun place to play in the waves when there are white caps on the portage.
- McClain State Park

- This is where K-day is held every year. Opposite of breakers this is a wonderful spot to view the northern lights. This beach has a swing-set that even college people can use without hitting their feet.
