Alternative Spring Break
The OAP student staff plan a number of Spring break adventures for students. The OAP prides itself on offering a quality experience in the outdoors, planned and led by student trip leaders. Our student trip leaders have extensive training, including Wilderness First Responder Certification and previous trip leader experience. Our trip leaders spend a great deal of time researching and planning these trips to ensure a safe, fun, and sometimes educational experience for their peers.
The OAP has been to Puerto Rico on a surfing and beach adventure, the Buffalo National River in Northern Arkansas canoeing and camping, the Grand Canyon backpacking and camping, Utah skiing and snowboarding, and many others. The trips are a way for students to get out of Houghton for Spring Break and to do it for a reasonable cost. We focus on outdoor, silent sports style trips that allow us to spend about 1 day of travel to get there and to get back.
The cost of the trips will vary from year to year as well as from trip to trip. In the past trips have ranged in cost from about $300 to $1000, depending on location and activities included. The trips for 2013 have been set and are listed below:
Utah Skiing/Snowboarding/Snowshoeing
Join the OAP as we head west! We will be staying in Eden, UT and skiing at Powder Mountain and Snowbasin. $850 includes transportation, food, ski passes, and lodging.
Arkansas and Missouri Adventure
The OAP will be taking an great adventure in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas that includes climbing, paddling, hiking, and a wild animal safari. $600 includes transportation, food, and passes and permits for all activities.
Arkansas Paddling
For those who love to paddle, this trip is for you. $450 includes transportation, group gear, food, and shuttles on the rivers. We will be paddling on both the Buffalo National River and the Mulberry River in Arkansas.

March 9-16 ASB Trips!
**PE0210 class credit is available for Track A of Spring 2013 for service performed during an ASB trip. A fee of $200 will be billed for 0.5 credit hours.
PLEASE NOTE: Deposits are nonrefundable. Deposits hold your position on a trip and it is your commitment to attend and comply with meetings and required paperwork.
No refunds (deposit or full trip fee) are given when a participant is sent home for disciplinary reasons.
