Project Title: Campus Computing Summit

Abstract: Michigan Tech has an excellent computing environment, in part due to its decentralized structure. This resource attracts high quality faculty, staff and students enabling all to be more productive, clearly contributing to MTU's vision. However, more could be accomplished with existing resources. For instance, we need to raise awareness of our computing resources. Computing issues should become part of the University's business. Some clustered centralization may occur to improve efficiency. This could provide a more challenging and rewarding working environment for IT professionals.

Most importantly, transforming computing into an integral component in MTU's strategic planning should raise computing's visibility. All these are necessary if MTU is to preserve its leadership position. A first step would be a "Computing Summit"; initially supported by the Vision Fund.
