Vision
Plan: Letter of Intent Project Title:
Powertrain Research and Education Facility Abstract:
This project will integrate the engines, transmissions, hybrid powertrain,
and NVH research activities into a new Powertrain Research and Education
Facility to create an exceptional coalition of research and graduate education
strengths. Powertrain
research at MTU has reached a stage ($2.8M in open contracts) where it
is poised to pursue national center funding. A modern facility is proposed
that will bring faculty from these different areas together with the goal
of attracting national visibility. We believe the union between the Powertrain
and the NVH community will provide a unique foundation for an engineering
research center. This initative will foster synergism between researchers
in both traditional and hybrid powertrain research as well as the novel
application of NVH post-processing techniques to powertrain phenomena.
The facility would also be used to forge a stronger link between KRC,
the School of Technology and the graduate education mission of the College
of Engineering. Project Leader
