Project Title:
The pencil analogy: Using the Sun as a source of heat instead of paying
for energy
Abstract: Recently, MTU moved out of the quarter system into the semester
one. The dates when these semesters were moved should have been changed
as well. The main semesters should be from April to December. We could
have a winter session to replicate the failing summer one which recently
lost 0.5 million. The university could shut down for a period of three
weeks during the winter saving heating costs. Night courses could be offered
for people taking summer vacations, such as an MBA program. We would not
need to heat as much during the winter months. Students would much more
appreciate the summer rather than the winter. More jobs would be available
for them during the off-winter session. There would be more people making
use of the Rozsa center during the summer. The local industries would
all prosper as a result of this shift, as the local winter commerce would
still be present. This would clearly revitalize the Keweenaw during it's
most attractive season.
