Plan: Letter of Intent Project Title:
Low-Power/High-Performance Mobile Computer Applications Abstract:
Modern computer applications running on mobile devices (e.g., cell phones)
require high performance with low power requirements. One effective technique
for lowering the power requirements of a mobile application is to reduce
the amount of computer memory that is needed and accessed by the application.
Reduced memory accesses can increase application performance and lower
the cost of the device itself. Current hardware solutions have precise
knowledge of program behavior, but high power requirements. Software solutions
have low power requirements, but imprecise knowledge of program behavior.
In this project, we will be developing combined computer hardware and
software techniques that will reduce the memory consumption of mobile
applications taking advantage of the low power requirements of software
and the increased run-time knowledge of hardware. Project Leader
