Project Title: Strengthening MTU Residential Life through Intramural Sports

Abstract: Student participation in intramural sports at Michigan Tech is hampered by the fees charged students, the highest being $325 for ice hockey. We propose elimating fees for individual and team intramural sports.

We expect an increase in the number of students particating in all sports and an increase in the number of sports requested. Benefits to students will be an increased sense of belonging to the residential community, and should increase retention of our existing students. The increased sense of belonging to rather than being just a another body in Fisher or Dow may also help our existing students recruit qualified new students through the best form of advertising, word of mouth.
Financial support may come from the provostry or external sources for an initial trial.
