Project Title: Certificate in Health Policy, Management and Technology

Abstract: This effort would establish an interdisciplinary course of study and certificate program in health policy management and technology. It would add introductory courses, distance learning opportunities, field experiences and externships to existing offerings in the Department of Social Sciences, Center for Biomedical Engineering, Department of Biological Sciences, School of Business and Economics and Department of Humanities. Demand for professionals competent in bridging relationships between medical practice, regulation, law, management, ethics, biotechnology and communication is increasing. Interest at MTU is strong, as evident in Spring 2001 faculty discussions under a Faculty Development Committee award and health-related course enrollment. The program compliments initiatives in biotechnology and information technology, would assist in recruiting students with broader interests and would meet the local health community's professional development needs.
