Project Title: Recruitment and Success of Graduate Students

Abstract: The Graduate Program is vital to MTU's future and its continued growth is a central feature of the Strategic Plan. Because graduate students teach a large number of students and contribute significantly to our research and scholarly activities, a diverse, high quality graduate student population is critical for acheiving our
goals. The strength of the Graduate Program is also important for recruiting, retaining and supporting high quality faculty. We propose to develop and implement two, interrelated, three-year projects: 1. recruiting new, highly qualified graduate students with emphasis on significantly increase MTU's research and graduate program visibility. 2. Help graduate students complete their degrees in an optimal fashion, stressing continuous progress and scholarship. Associated issues to be considered are stipends, health care, faculty mentoring and quality-of-life.
