Research Promotion through Web Animation and Visualization Abstract:
The internet is rapidly becoming the primary interface between MTU and
the rest of the world. Recognition of MTU research has been facilitated
by text-based news stories accompanied by an image or two, but a real
multimedia showcase is lacking. Macromedia's Flash is a fast-loading,
vector-based animation tool which is multi-platform and fully interactive.
Flash animations can be used to facilitate understanding of scientific
and technical processes, mechanisms, instrumentation and models. Fine
arts, economics and business-related research can also benefit from interactive
presentations. The animations can be packaged in promotional web pages
containing explanations, links to researchers' own pages, biographical
information, project history, and so on. Like NASA, Michigan Tech can
be ready for the evening news with simple animations of leading edge research.
