Project Title: An Integrated First Year Retention Program
Abstract: Other universities and colleges with similar academic programs and high student acceptance rates exhibit higher first year retention rates than MTU. These schools have instituted a centrally coordinated suite of retention efforts including such things as multiple orientation programs, "early start" programs, parental notification of academic progress, amended grading and probation standards, supplemental instruction and flexible pacing options, honors and research experiences, living and learning communities, proactive and multifaceted advising activities, and ongoing staff development programs.

This proposal is to develop and implement such a centrally coordinated suite of services and programs at MTU largely employing existing student, staff, and faculty resources. The goal is to make MTU a more accessible, engaging, and productive learning environment for more first year students.
