Plan: Letter of Intent Project Title:
National Exposure of MTU through Hosting a National Collegiate BattleBots
Tournament Abstract:
The goal is to generate widespread exposure of MTU to undergraduate students
prior to the graduate-school application process. We aim to bring the
students to Houghton to see the campus, explore our facilities, and experience
the environment of this community and the Keweenaw. In general, we propose
a competition to be organized and hosted by MTU to involve student teams
from other universities at their expense, similar to the Formula SAE,
Mini-Baha, and other national competitions. The event would be modeled
after the highly popular "BattleBots" series that airs weekly
on the Comedy Central cable network. During their visit to campus, auxiliary
events expose the participants to graduate research labs and meetings
with faculty as motivators for pursuing graduate school in general, and
specifically at MTU. Project Leader
