Scholar Awards Program
Working in the labThe opportunity—Leading scholarships are offered to incoming students with exemplary leadership attributes and outstanding scholarly achievement. Candidates must be nominated by one or more of their teachers or advisors. These scholarships exemplify Michigan Tech's best, and those selected will be invited for a campus visit on December 3 and 4 for personal and professional appraisal. A minimum of twenty-five finalists will be invited to participate in this prestigious event.

The value—The scholarships are equivalent to regular, full-time tuition, plus room and board, plus a stipend of $600 each year. The value for academic year 2006–2007, was $15,711.

Number of awards—Three students are chosen for each incoming freshman class. All other finalists who participate in the program on December 3 and 4 will receive a scholarship that will total $32,000 over four years.

Length—The awards are given for four years (eight semesters). Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.25 Grade Point Average to have the award renewed for the second, third, and fourth years.

Qualifications—The awards are made to superior students from Michigan who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in their high school and community and have an established record of outstanding scholarly achievement and potential for excellence in any program of study that is available at Michigan Tech.

Expectations of Leading Scholars—Awardees are expected to serve in a variety of capacities at Michigan Tech, which may include but are not limited to, hosting Michigan Tech's Board of Control, serving as ambassadors for visit programs, attending community events, assisting with creation and development of campus-based leadership initiatives, etc.

Deadline for nominations—October 15, 2006.

Determination of Award: Selection of finalists will be made by the Michigan Tech Leading Scholars Scholarship Committee as soon as possible after October 15. Final award recipients will be selected by January 1.
