Research conducted at Michigan Technological University is safe and ethical. To maintain this standard and to comply with Federal as well as State of Michigan regulations and laws, Michigan Tech has three regulatory committees:

  • Human Subjects Committee (IRB)
  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

Each committee has established operating guidelines and maintains a program to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws that provide protection against research risk in specific areas. Each committee has a different program and makes different demands of the researchers working in its domain. Researchers planning to work in an area covered by one or more of these committees, must make formal application to the appropriate committee(s) and agree to conform to the established program(s) before the research is conducted.

If you are conducting research in any of the following areas, a Study Project Package must be created with the appropriate completed documents and submitted through IRBNet.org. All communication and board review decision letters will be issued electronically via IRBNet.
