Research conducted at Michigan Technological University is safe and ethical. To maintain this standard and to comply with Federal as well as State of Michigan regulations and laws, Michigan Tech has three regulatory committees:

  • Human Subjects Committee (IRB)
  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Recombinant DNA (IBC)

Each committee has established operating guidelines and maintains a program to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws that provide protection against research risk in specific areas. Each committee has a different program and makes different demands of the researchers working in its domain. Researchers planning to work in an area covered by one or more of these committees, must make formal application to the appropriate committee(s) and agree to conform to the established program(s) before the research is conducted.

If you are conducting research in any of the following areas, you are required to complete the appropriate application: (choose one)

  • Research or instructional project involving the participation of human subjects
  • Testing or instructional project involving the use of vertebrate animals (animal subjects)
  • Research, teaching and testing involving recombinant DNA, infectious agents and/or cultured cell lines
Michigan Technological University is an equal opportunity educational institution/equal opportunity employer
