The Dow Chemical Company
Dow Chemical combines the power of science and technology to passionately innovate what is essential to human progress. The Company connects chemistry and innovation with the principles of sustainability to help address many of the world's most challenging problems such as the need for clean water, renewable energy generation and conservation, and increasing agricultural productivity.
Dow has had a long partnership with Michigan Tech through recruiting, scholarships, student projects, faculty support, diversity initiatives, K-12 STEM education, facilities support, and other projects on campus over the last half century.
Specific to recruiting, Dow has been a Career Service Partner since the program’s inception and has consistently been one of the most sought after companies to work for by students. This is in part due to the strong Dow Chemical – Michigan Tech team built from Dow staff, many of whom are alumni of Michigan Tech. The overall Dow alumni group has created a company scholarship, built by individual donations, which is awarded to a qualified student each year.
Recently, Dow Chemical North America has teamed up with Michigan Tech’s Mind Trekkers to bring the magic of science to thousands of children across the nation. Leading the charge in 2013 by sponsoring the Great Lakes Bay Science and Engineering Festival at Delta College near Midland, MI, Dow’s team of scientists and experiments wowed the crowded building of teachers and students. The team partnered again at the April 2014 USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington D.C. and became a standout exhibit, entertaining over 250,000 attendees over three days. The team renewed their STEM efforts by partnering for the 2nd Annual Great Lakes Bay Science and Engineering Festival in September 2014 and will lead Adventures in STEM – a Houston Area Science and Engineering Festival at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, TX. Dow’s current investment in K-12 STEM education programming in their operating communities will directly impact and develop their long term talent acquisition strategy for operators, skilled trades, engineers, and management.
Dow’s strong internal corporate-university team approach, to engage in campus programs, delivers significant advantages for Michigan Tech’s students, faculty and staff with their mission to “create the future."
