Sponsored Programs Accounting generates and distributes payroll certification forms for the principal investigator’s signature. This procedure complies with federal regulations outlined in OMB Circular A-21. The form verifies the ratio charged to the sponsored agreement represents a reasonable estimate of the work performed by the employee during the period indicated on the report.
The reports need to be signed by the employee, principal investigator, or responsible official(s) using suitable means of verification that the work was performed. If an individual is no longer in the employ of the university, that should be noted on the form.
Payroll certifications are distributed each semester (for faculty) and each month for non-faculty. This is a federal requirement.
