A student enrolled at Michigan Technological University who is currently pursuing or has already been granted a bachelor’s degree can obtain a second degree from Michigan Tech. Unlike a double major, a second degree will grant the student an entirely separate bachelor’s degree. Student’s pursuing a bachelor's degree from Michigan Tech can earn a secnd bachelor's degree at the same time if they meet the following requirements:

  • Satisfy the degree requirements for both bachelor’s programs.
  • Earn at least 32 of the credit hours required for the second degree through Michigan Tech without having applied those credits to any other baccalaureate or minor program.

An enrolled student who has already earned a bachelor's degree (from Michigan Tech or another college or university accepted by Michigan Tech) can obtain a second bachelor's degree from Michigan Tech if they:

  • Satisfy the degree requirements for the second bachelor's program.
  • Earn at least thirty-two of the credit hours required for the second degree through Michigan Tech without having applied those credits to any other bachelor's or minor degree program.

A student interested in getting a second degree should first express their interest to the second degree's department. A student should then complete a Curriculum Add/Drop form, have their academic advisor sign it, then return the form to the Registrar's Office.

Before graduating, a student must complete a degree audit for the second degree with an academic advisor within the second degree’s department.
