Higher Learning Commission Open Pathway

Michigan Tech is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. HLC accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region. Click here for our Statement of Affiliation Status.

Michigan Tech has been continuously accredited since 1928. In 2005, Michigan Tech was accepted into the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), an alternative evaluation process for institutions already accredited by the Commission. Action Projects and the Systems Portfolio completed under AQIP are available at www.mtu.edu/aqip. Michigan Tech’s accreditation was reaffirmed in 2013.

In 2013, Michigan Tech elected to move to the Open Pathway, a new pathway for institutions that have been accredited for more than 10 years. It requires that we meet the five criteria for accreditation (revised by the Higher Learning Commission in 2013) through an assurance review, and complete a Quality Initiative prior to the next comprehensive evaluation in 2023.
